Solu (or Solukhumbu) is the southern, lower part of the district that contains Khumbu. Trekkers reach it by road — no Lukla flight risk. The signature trek is Pikey Peak (4,065 m), a short, road-accessible route to a viewpoint Edmund Hillary called the finest Everest panorama he'd seen. Solu was also the historic acclimatization corridor for early Everest expeditions before the Lukla airstrip opened in 1964.
