Can I trek solo in Nepal in 2026?

Short answer

No, not in national parks or conservation areas. Since April 2023, a licensed guide is mandatory in most regions.

— Detail

The Nepal Tourism Board banned solo independent trekking in national parks and conservation areas effective April 1, 2023. Guides must be licensed and booked through a TAAN-registered agency. Lowland and short hikes around Kathmandu Valley remain solo-friendly. Manaslu, Upper Mustang, and other restricted areas additionally require minimum group sizes.
