Annapurna Circuit — best direction for first timers?
Going east to west lets you gain altitude gradually over 5–6 days before the pass. The opposite means a 1,700 m ascent in two days, which most trekkers can't acclimatize for. Stick to the classic direction unless you have prior high-altitude experience.
Confirmed from last week — checkpoints were strict and asked for both the guide license and the permit. Don't try to walk through without a guide card.
Same experience at Birethanti. They scanned my permit twice and asked who my guide was.
How much did your guide charge? Trying to budget for September.
NPR 4,000/day with a 14-day trek. They covered their own food and lodging.
Just got back. Did the classic direction in 14 days, no problems with weather in early November. Mornings were perfect, clouded over around 1 PM most days.
That's the textbook pattern for November. Glad it held.
